In the Belthangady region of the South Canara district, authorities have registered another case linked to the posting of inflammatory communal content on social media. This information was confirmed by local police.
According to a complaint filed by 43-year-old Shekhar Layila, he noticed several posts on the Facebook account of Vasant Giliyar while checking his mobile phone on the afternoon of August 9. The complaint alleges that these posts were disseminated with the intent to incite animosity between different religions and communities.
The police have initiated an investigation by filing a case under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the Belthangady police station. Previously, on Friday night, the police had registered two additional cases concerning the posting of objectionable and obscene material, one of which implicated YouTuber Rakesh Shetty.
Additionally, in connection with a violent clash that occurred on August 6 at the Pangal Cross religious site, the police have recorded a total of seven complaints. Both sides involved in the incident have accused each other of serious offenses, including assault, threats, and rioting.
